Some clips from articles about Obama's healthcare plan.

Here's your mandated, massively expensive health insurance plan

Every citizen will be required to have some kind of approved health insurance. If they don't have it, they will be fined.
cost estimates came in far higher than expected. The initial price tag for a measure drafted by the Senate Finance Committee, for example, was $1.6 trillion over 10 years.
Under the House bill, health insurance would be regulated by a powerful new federal agency, headed by a presidential appointee known as the health choices commissioner.
The bill would impose a new "tax on individuals without acceptable health care coverage." The tax would be based on a person's income and could not exceed the average cost of a basic health insurance policy. People could be exempted from the tax "in cases of hardship."
In reality, it is a recipe for fiscal disaster and a loss of personal freedom so profound as to call into question the American experiment itself.

Simple Healthcare Math

the Congressional Budget Office issued a report this week concluding, from a partial draft of a Senate health committee bill, that the plan would cost $1 trillion over 10 years but only provide coverage for 16 million of the estimated 50 million Americans who are uninsured.
A hundred and sixty billion dollars per year is $13.3B per month to insure only 16 million people. That works out to about $833 per subscriber. That might be a good price for a 75-year-old, but Medicare already covers them. Mr. Obama wants taxpayers to insure Americans in their 30s, 40s, and 50s.
A quick scan of the Anthem Blue Cross website shows that society could get a much better deal in the private sector -- even without a 16-million person group rate. A Santa Monica, California 50-year-old male can get a $3500 deductible HSA policy for $172 per month. That includes drug coverage and no co-pay for office visits after the deductible is met.

Apologetics: "If God Were Real..."

I thought this was a great rebuttle to this argument & just had to share it. :)

If God Were Real...

It's the temptation of some who reject the reality of God's existence to use the following kind of reasoning as part of their evidence: "If the Christian God were real, He would [X]. However, He does not [X], therefore He is not real."

The problem with a person using this kind of reasoning is that he presumes to know what God would do, and often he does this without the proper knowledge of God's actions in the past, His character, or His overall purposes. The reasoning turns out to really be: "If I were God, I would do [X]. The Christian God does not do what I would do (in light of my purposes and goals), therefore He is not real." But God is a person. He has his own, specific goals and purposes. Because the reasoner's assumption is based on faulty understandings of these things about the Christian God, his prediction of what God "would do" is also faulty.

Matthew 27:39-43 gives another great example of this kind of objection

And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads and saying, "You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross." In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying, "He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. He trusts in God; let God rescue Him now, if He delights in Him; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'" (Matthew 27:39-43)
If Jesus had come down & saved himself & the others, he would not have been able to save me or their souls. Our souls are much more important to God than our lives.

"The Five Finger Prayer"

The Five Finger Prayer

1. The Thumb is nearest you, so begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you..
As C. S. Lewis once said, praying for loved ones is a “sweet duty.”
2. The pointing finger in next. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction.
3. The middle finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators.
4. The ring finger is next. This is our weakest finger. Let it remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain.
5. Finally, our little finger, the smallest finger of all. The Bible says, “The least shall be the greatest among you.” Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

Politics: "U.S. Civil Rights Commissioners Oppose Hate-Crimes Bill"

U.S. Civil Rights Commissioners Oppose Hate-Crimes Bill

The Hate Crimes Prevention Act has gotten a thumbs-down from members of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, in the form of a letter to Senate leaders saying the proposed legislation "will do little good and a great deal of harm."

But he said the worst part of the hate-crimes bill is it could restrict free speech, "because if a pastor stands up and preaches that the Word of God says that homosexuality is wrong, that pastor could be accused of hate speech and could even be accused or charged with inducing someone to commit a crime against a homosexual."

"This particular hate-crimes bill would be the first time the federal government disapproves of a valid, sincerely held religious belief held by a majority of Americans," he explained. "And that's very troubling for free speech and free exercise of religion."
